  • Provided interdisciplinary care to sick patients with multiple trauma, severe single system injury, organ dysfunction, and extensive soft tissue injury.

  • Oversaw routine operations, such as continuous EKG, hemodynamic, SPO2, respiratory and pressure monitoring, IV placement, blood draws, medication administration, bladder scans, Doppler pulse recording, trach care/suctioning, and extensive medical documentation for patients on the 12-bed unit.

  • Selected out of a class of 80 students to be admitted into the Clinical Scholars Program after a challenging selection process and worked on the IMC unit as a student nurse for the final semester practicum

  • My primary role was managing patient care, process improvement, staff/clinic oversight, and managing all departments, including physician offices, dental offices, laboratory, vaccination office, and records management.

  • Managed the medical department and improved medical readiness for over 750 sailors and marines from 60% to 99% prior to deployment to Afghanistan.

  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Instructor. TCCC is developed by the U.S. Department of Defense Defense Health Agency (DHA) Joint Trauma System to teach evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield.


While forward deployed to Afghanistan:

  • Maintained medical supply and medication inventory of medical tent and vehicles for patrols and inspected patrol base for preventative medicine, including food areas, bathrooms, showers, and living areas.

  • Performed 3500 hours of patrols, treated multiple civilian and military patients for minor and major injuries and maintained medical inventory in vehicles and the aid station at our patrol base.

  • Worked three weeks in the Level 1 trauma center at Camp Bastion Hospital, Helmand, Afghanistan for training; directly assisted with the resuscitation, stabilization, and monitoring of incoming injured patients.


Medals Received:

  • Purple Heart recipient for injuries received while in Afghanistan.

  • Recipient of two Navy and Marine Corps Service Achievement Medals for outstanding accomplishments while on duty.

  • Recipient of the Navy Unit Commendation for our battalion’s exceptional performance in Afghanistan.
